11.1. Discuss, consider, and take all necessary action to Board Member Appointments to the Ravenna Public Schools Foundation
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
The Ravenna Board of Education is suppose to appoint members to the Board of Directors for the Ravenna Public School's Foundation at its February Board Meeting. Therefore, last year, we began to collectively review this information together annually, so that the board would be in a good position in February to make any needed appointments. Misti Fiddelke-Board Member (2011/2013/2015/2017/2019) Tara Schirmer-Board Member (2009/2015/2017/2019)-Tara has one more 2-year term that she can serve, as the bylaws indicate board members can serve 4 consecutive terms. So, she is eligible through 2023. Nikki Bock-Community Member (2018)-Needs to be reappointed or replaced in 2021. Heidi Kjar-Teacher (2018)-Heidi would either need to be reappointed or replaced in 2021. Sonya Rasmussen-Teacher (2018)-Sonya would either need to be reappointed or replaced in 2021. Tiffani Drabek-Teacher (2019)-Needs to be reappointed or replaced in 2022. Superintendent (Lifetime Ex-Officio, Non-Voting Member) The"By-Laws of Ravenna Public School Foundation" (see attached) call for the Ravenna Board of Education to appoint the board members. The purpose of this agenda item is to review the current board appointments, track the length of the board members' appointments on an annual basis, and to establish a plan to revisit these appointments for review by the board on an annual basis. Board Members may serve no more than four consecutive terms: Board members=2 year term x 4 terms max=8 years Other appointed members=3 year term x 4 terms max=12 years
Recommended Motion(s):

11.2. Discuss, consider, and take all action necessary to 2019-20 Ravenna Public Schools Calendar
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
A copy of the proposed 2019-20 School Calendar is attached for review and possible approval by the board. A draft of the calendar was shared with the staff for input prior to the creation of the final draft of the calendar.
Also, attached is a copy of the "2019-20 Calendar Instructional Hours" which details the number of minutes students are in session during the 2019-20 School Year. Rule 10 requires students to receive 1080 hours of instruction, to meet accreditation requirements. The calendar draft provides for 1180.2 instructional hours for K-11 students and 1114.7 hours for 12th grade students. This would allow for 14.42 snow days for K-11 grade students and 4.99 snow days for 12th grade students. The calendar provides for 174.5 instructional days for students and 186 work days for teachers.

12. Discussion Items
Agenda Item Type:
Information Item

|
12.1. Discuss, consider, and take all action necessary to "2019-20 Classified Handbook"
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
The proposed draft of the 2019-20 "Classified Staff Handbook" is attached. There are two primary changes proposed. Both proposed changes appear on page 4 of the handbook and are related to leave.
1) Emergency Leave-This language is proposed to be changed to mirror the change to emergency leave that was made in the negotiated contract with teachers. 2) Sick Leave-Currently, classified staff who work 9 or 10 months and are classified as "full-time school term employees" receive 5 days of sick leave that are cumulative up to 20 days. Year round classified employees who work 12 months receive 10 days of sick leave that are cumulative up to 40 days. If the standard for 12-month employees is 10 sick days cumulative to 40, a pro-rated value for 9-months (75% of 12 months) would be 7.5 sick days, cumulative up to 30 days. When looking at schools across the conference, some districts offer more sick days and more cumulative leave totals to 9 & 10-month employees than others. There does not seem to be any prescriptive, standard formula. This change would affect the following positions and generate 62.5 additional leave days (2.5 days more X 25 employees eligible for the benefit = 62.5) the district is responsible for: 1 Nurse 14 paras 1 clerical 3 kitchen 6 bus drivers 25 people *62.5 days of additional leave would be added, generating a cost of $6500

12.2. Discuss, consider, and take all action necessary to "Staff Handbook" Draft
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
The administrative team and office staff have been working on the staff handbook. A draft is attached to this agenda item for review by the board. Highlighted portions are portions that the administrative team and the office staff have made edits on to comply with recently (last two years) adopted policy and to reflect actual practices and protocols of the school district. The Board Policy Committee, as well as all other board members, are encouraged to review the handbook and to make the administration aware of any potential concerns or questions.
Once the teacher evaluation instrument is finalized, it will be added to the staff handbook and put in front of the board for final consideration and approval, likely late this spring. It will go into effect at the commencement of the 2019-20 school year and be the last portion of the "full policy review" conducted by the school board.
