Discussion:
City Administrator Tom Ourada provided a presentation on a New Sports and Recreation Complex-Why Do This vs. Why Not
- Investing in the community has made a difference. - Various concepts have been proposed - Expanding Tuxedo Park would not address many needs or provide opportunities for the youth - Building new fields and amenities (at least 6 softball fields) (4 regulation-sized soccer fields) (2 baseball fields) (Recreation area - playground, picnic, trial, etc.) - The property the City is looking at purchasing is south of town and totals 59+ acres. (includes one well but excludes a large well and pivot.) (costs a little over $20,000 per acre) - The City has a 71 acre farm that the other owner is interested in. (Could be used to help offset the cost of acquisition) (Balance of the purchase would be funded with utility reserve funds) - Parks & Rec budget will at least double (But it will not occur for several years) - Can transition from Tuxedo Park to South Park with old and new infrastructure in a deliberate and organized manner without deficit spending and without programs suffering. - The General fund will grow with the increase in property and sales tax that is the beneficiary of the increases in travel and traffic coming from this project. - •Start tonight - Park & Rec Committee•Then Council - •Move some fields over•Construct new•New soccer on limited budget - low cost participation•Rock road and small parking areas•Infrastructure is in place with a well and water, sewer, and power in the vicinity. |
