I don't have a group for this month, but would like to commend Bob on his role in promoting Nebraska Public Schools as being the heart of our communities. His work with the NSEA to film and promote education in Nebraska was seen in commercials played during both state basketball tournaments and during Omaha Supernovas games. The video can also be seen on social media. Way to go, Bob!

Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
ACT for 11th graders In preparation for the ACT test, 11th graders have begun the Jon Baylor Test Prep program. Students will obtain helpful hints as well as possible questions to get themselves ready for the ACT, which is given as the state test to all juniors. Important Dates March 27th - All 11th graders will report to the old gym for the ACT practice test. The gym will be set as it will be during the day of the actual test. It is a great way for the student to get a feel of what questions will be asked, time allowances for each section, and the set-up of the test. After it is complete, we will ask students what we can do better to assist them in making it a good testing environment. The practice ACT is corrected and shared with students. April 9th - ACT Date for all paper-pencil testing location We will provide breakfast for all juniors prior to testing. A granola bar and water during their break and pizza before they complete the writing section of the test will be provided to students. After the writing section, 11th graders will be dismissed for the day. March 28th - All 10th graders will take the Pre-ACT in the old gym. |
VI.B.b. Driver’s Education
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
Karma Amison will again be our Driver’s Education Instructor for the 2024 summer course. The classroom portion of the course will run from May 20th to May 24th from 8am to noon each day. After the classroom instruction, students will sign up for behind-the-wheel instruction, which must be equal to 5-hours. To complete the driving portion of the course, students must be 14 years of age and hold a school/learners permit. All driving must be completed by August 15th. 2023 Cost $360 ($460 Non-NBC students) Area Drivers Ed programs and costs: NECC supports districts such as Stanton, Winside, Emerson, Pierce, and others at $295 per course. Logan View uses Big Red Driver’s Ed - $335.00 Saunders County Driving School - 2023 rate - $330.00 Cornhusker Driving school - $495.00 Last year we had 24 students sign up for driver's ed. We did not offer it the year prior, so many HS students registered as well as the normal 14/15-year-old students. |
VI.B.c. ReVision Grant
Agenda Item Type:
Action Item
Rationale:
We are in the final touches of the ReVision Action Grant process. A big thank you to Mrs. Katie Wright and Mrs. Alyssa Nelson for all their hard work and dedication to this process. We have worked with outside individuals who have been successful in obtaining these grant funds, so hopefully, with their input and the work of these ladies, we too will be successful and award the funds requested for the equipment part of the renovation of the FCS room. On Thursday, March 7th, Teresa Fibich from WilkinsADP will be visiting the district to take a closer look at our current FCS classroom. In conversation with Teresa, Wilkins will assist in the design of the infrastructure of the classroom, and Mr. Roy Wright will serve as our General Contractor for the project. Big Thank You to Roy as his willingness to assist will save the district some money and, hopefully will be able to contract with local contractors to complete the scope needed for this project. The ESU #2 is also looking at writing a ReVision Action Grant to support the implementation of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program. A partnership between the ESU #2 and Talon Industries would provide curriculum, instruction, and hands-on driving practice to obtain a CDL licensure. We were really excited to be part of this grant also, but as we were writing our own grant application we didn't want to minimize our chances. In conversation with Cheryl Kreikemeier, ESU #2, and the Nebraska Department of Education, we feel confident that each grant will stand on its own. North Bend Central has signed a letter of support for the ESU CDL project, and if awarded will hopefully be able to provide the opportunity to a senior student. |
