Rationale: 

This is the portion of the meeting agenda that is set aside for public participation.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is not on the meeting agenda, they should identify themselves at this time.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is on the agenda, they may do so when that item is discussed.  The guideline is to allow 5 minutes per individual or 20 minutes per topic.  This is an open, public meeting and a copy of the Open meetings Act is posted in this room.

 

2. Presentations -
2.A. Recognition of KHS State Speech Contest Winners and Coaches
Rationale:  We will recognize State Speech Champions Connor Garrison and Tony Koetters in Duet Acting and Nathan Bonsall in Humorous Interpretation; and State Runners-up Bridget Besse, Nathan Bonsall, Connor Garrison, Addison Parr and Jacob Wayman competing in Oral Interpretation of Drama.  The team as a whole finished 3rd in the state. 
2.B. Heartland Athletic Conference Report
Rationale:  Mitch Stine, Activities Director, will report on KHS becoming part of the Heartland Athletic Conference beginning the 2018-2019 school year.
2.C. National School Boards Association Annual Conference Report
Rationale:  Dr. Kent Edwards, Dr. Carol Renner and Board members who attended the 2017 NSBA Annual Education Conference in Denver, CO., March 25-27, will report on the sessions they attended at the Conference.
2.D. Legislative Update
Rationale:  Superintendent Edwards will report on the most recent legislative activity in the Nebraska Unicameral as it relates to education and the Kearney Public Schools.
2.E. Announcement of "Celebration of Excellence"
Rationale:  President Glover will announce that this year's "Celebration of Excellence" Reception will be held on Thursday, April 27th beginning with a social at 4:30 P.M., followed by the program at 5:15 P.M. in the Loper Room at the Kearney Holiday Inn.  This reception is to honor our employees for their years of service, the Foundation award winners, and this year's retirees.  Everyone is welcome to attend and reservations can be made through the KPS Foundation Office.
3. Consent Agenda -

Rationale: 

Daniel Vargas, a KHS sophomore, qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference which will be held in Anaheim, California, April 25-30, 2017.  At ICDC, Daniel will be competing in the Principles of Finance category and will be able to network with fellow business-minded high school students from across the country in his chosen field of finance.  Daniel would like to pursue a career in accounting in the future.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the trip of Daniel Vargas, KHS sophomore, to the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, April 25-30, 2017, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
4. Regular Agenda - Personnel
4.A. Acceptance of Resignations
Rationale: 

We have received letters of resignation from Paula Rose, 4th grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary School; Sara Axtell, 2nd grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School; Rick Masters, assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School; and Carmen Warner, family and consumer science teacher at Kearney High School.  These resignations are effective the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to accept the resignations of Paula Rose, 4th grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary School, Sara Axtell, 2nd grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School; Rick Masters, assistant principal at Sunrise Middle School; and Carmen Warner, family and consumer science teacher at Kearney High School; with regret, effective the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

English dept. head at Bellevue East and going through the Doane program. Kathy - ELL also. Passed with a motion by Mrs. Kathy Gifford and a second by Angela Nickel.
