1. Public Policy Hearings -
1.A. Student Fee Policy Hearing - Convene Hearing - Discussion and Public Input - Close Hearing
Rationale:  The public hearing on student fees is for the purpose of reviewing the amount of money collected from students pursuant to, and use of waivers provided in, the student fee policy and rule of the school district for the 2016-2017 school year.

Rationale:  Each year, the school district is required to conduct a public hearing in regard to our Parent Involvement and Title I Parent Involvement policies and to explain ways the district encourages parents to become involved in their children's educational program.

3.A. Recognition of the KHS Boys' Track State Champion in the 4 x 400 & Boys' Track Coaches
Rationale:  Our KHS boys' 4 x 400 team of Smith, Willis, Barth and Grube were Class A State Champions and the team received the all-class gold award.
3.B. Follow-up Report from June 26, 2017 Special Board Retreat Meeting
Rationale:  Dr. Edwards, Dr. Renner and Board of Education members will report on the topics discussed at the June 26, 2017 special retreat meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  Each year, the Board of Education is asked to designate the Superintendent or His/Her Designee to be authorized to dispose of all obsolete furniture, books, materials, and equipment in the most favorable manner to the district in accordance with all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to such disposition.

4.G. Designate Dr. Kent Edwards as the Authorized Representative of the Kearney Public Schools to Sign all Claims and Forms for all Federal Programs for the 2017-2018 School Year
Rationale:  Each year, the Board of Education is asked to designate the Superintendent as the authorized representative of the Kearney Public Schools to sign all claims and forms for all federal programs for the next school year.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to designate Dr. Kent Edwards as the authorized representative of the Kearney Public Schools to sign all claims and forms for all federal programs for the 2017-2018 school year.
4.H. Designate Kate Murphy and Chris Nelson as the Authorized Representatives of the Kearney Public Schools to Sign All Claims for Reimbursement, as well as all Federal, State, and Local Information Pertaining to the School Food Service Program for the 2017-2018 School Year
Rationale: 

Each year, the Board of Education is asked to designate the Food Service Director and Director of Finance as the authorized representatives of the Kearney Public Schools to sign all claims for reimbursement, as well as all federal, state, and local information pertaining to the school food service program for the next school year.

Rationale:  We have made some minor revisions to the Facility Use Handbook for the 2017-2018 school year, which are indicated in red print in the attached draft.

4.J. Acceptance of the Kenwood Elementary School PTO Annual Self-Audit Report for the 2016-2017 School Year
Rationale:  The Kenwood PTO has submitted its annual self-audit report for the 2016-2017 school year for Board of Education consideration and acceptance.

4.K. Acceptance of the Kearney High School Band Booster Annual Self-Audit Report for the 2016-2017 School Year
Rationale:  The Kearney High School Band Booster organization has submitted its annual self-audit report for the 2016-2017 school year for Board of Education consideration and acceptance.

5.A. Approval of Certificated Employment Recommendation
Rationale: 

We will ask the Board of Education to approve the following certificated recommendation for employment for the 2017-2018 school year:

Clayton Waddle     MA+45, Step 8          1.00 FTE math teacher at Kearney High School

Clayton Waddle earned his BS from Peru State College with an endorsement in Math 7-12. He has his MA and Educational Specialist from UNK. His previous experiences include Superintendent and 7-12 Principal at Stapleton Public Schools, Superintendent at Southwest Public Schools and at Wakefield Community Schools. Additional experience includes K-12 Principal at South Central Nebraska USD #5, K-6 Principal at Red Cloud Community Schools, and Math and Tech Coordinator at Louisville Public Schools.  Clayton will teach Math at Kearney High School.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the employment of: Clayton Waddle, MA+45, Step 8, 1.00 FTE math teacher at Kearney High School.

Alex - To be commended and have brought a full slate of candidates this year and this is no exception. Congratulations on another good hiring season. Lance - principals do a lot of ground work to hire. Kent - 32 new hires. Tim - 3 former supts. in district now. Passed with a motion by Julie Agard and a second by Angela Nickel.
