We will ask the Board of Education to approve the Kearney Public Schools' Classified & Classified Exempt, Certified, and Substitute Employee Handbooks, for the 2017-2018 school year, as presented.

The changes to the certified employee handbook are as follows:

  1. page 1 - change of address for the Office for Civil Rights
  2. page 18 - section 5-D - updated to reflect new absence management system
  3. page 24 - edited section 6-E - Long Term Disability
  4. page 26 - minor wording edits to section 6-K - Tax Sheltered Annuities
  5. page 28 - Chapter 7, Employee Leave - changed leaves to reflect changes in negotiated agreement
  6. page 31 - revised and edited section 7-B Family Medical Leave Act to reflect current law
  7. page 75 - revised section 15-B, Professional Advancement on the Salary Schedule, to reflect changes in negotiated agreement 

The changes to the classified employee handbook are as follows:

  1. page 1 - Change of address for the Office of Civil Rights
  2. page 26 - Edited Section 5D, Long Term Disability 
  3. page 29 - Minor wording edits to section 6M, Tax Sheltered Annuities 
  4. page 30 - Section 6N, added summary list of all benefits 
  5. page 33 - Section 7A, added section regarding unpaid leaves
  6. page 36 - Revised and edited section 7B, Family Medical Leave Act, to reflect current law

3.F. Acceptance of the Bryant PTO Annual Self-Audit Report for the 2016-2017 School Year
Rationale: 

The Bryant PTO has presented its annual self-audit report for the 2016-2017 school year, for Board of Education acceptance.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to accept the Bryant PTO annual self-audit report for the 2016-2017 school year, as presented.
3.G. Approval of the Kearney High School FFA Chapter Trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN., October 25-28, 2017; and the Kearney High FFA Livestock Judging Team Trip to National Contest in Denver, Co., January 3-6, 2018
Rationale: 

The Kearney High School FFA Chapter would like Board of Education permission to attend the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, IN., October 25-28, 2017; and the KHS FFA livestock judging team has qualified to judge livestock at the Western National Round-up in Denver, Co., January 3-6, 2018, and would ask for permission to attend that event as well.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the trip of the KHS FFA Chapter to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN., October 25-28, 2017; and the livestock judging team trip to the Western National Round-up in Denver, CO., January 3.6, 2018, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
3.H. Set Monday, September 11, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. in the Cope Presentation Room at Sunrise Middle School, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing to receive input regarding the 2017-2018 Kearney Public Schools budget, and the regular meeting of the Board of Education for the adoption of said budget
Rationale: 

We will ask the Board of Education to set Monday, September 11, 2017 for the annual budget hearing and regular meeting of the Board of Education beginning at 5:30 P.M. in the Cope Presentation Room at Sunrise Middle School.

Recommended Motion(s):  Move to set Monday, September 11, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. in the Cope Presentation Room at Sunrise Middle School, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing to receive input regarding the 2017-2018 Kearney Public Schools budget, and the regular meeting of the Board of Education for the adoption of said budget

4.A. Vacate Current Board of Education Policies
Rationale: 

With the complete revision process of our Board of Education policies this past year, before the proposed new policies can be adopted, the Board of Education must vacate the current Board of Education that are still in effect at this time.
