Rationale:  This is the portion of the agenda that is set aside for public participation.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is not on this evening's agenda, they may do so at this time.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is on the agenda, they may do so when that item is discussed.  This is an open, public meeting and a copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in this room.

2.A. Recognition of Jan Jones for NATA "Art Educator of the Year" Award for 2012-2013
Rationale:  Jan Jones, art teacher at Horizon Middle School, has been named the Nebraska Art Teachers Association's "Art Educator of the Year" for 2012-2013.  Jan received her award at the NATA Fall Conference in Council Bluffs on Friday, October 5th.  Additionally, she will be recognized at the 2013 National Art Education Association's National Convention to be held in Fort Worth, Tx., in March, 2013.
Each year, NATA recognizes outstanding contributions to student learning, leadership in curriculum development in local school districts and communities, and participation in professional endeavors on state and national levels.  Jan's commitment to these goals is evident in the materials she provided for the NATA award.  We are pleased to recognize Jan for this outstanding award. 
2.B. Report on Official Fall Enrollment
Rationale:  Dr. Maher will provide the official fall enrollment figures for the Kearney Public Schools.
2.C. District Metrics Presentation
Rationale:  Dr. Maher will present charts on the district's goals and feedback for the district to review.
2.D. Construction Update & Future Planning
Rationale:  George Volz from CPM will report on the progress toward completion of the various construction projects in the school district.  Dr. Maher will report on facilities planning for the future.
3.A. Approval of the Minutes of the September 10, 2012 Regular Meeting and the September 17, 2012 Special Meeting, as presented.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the minutes of the September 10, 2012 regular meeting and the September 17, 2012 special meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.
3.B. Approval of the October Claims, as presented

3.D. Approval of Change Orders C-005 & N-002
Rationale:  Change Order C-005 for the Central Elementary School renovation project includes the following items:

1.    The addition of $532.00 to use excess carpet tiles to carpet Room 257.
2.    The addition of $18,432.00 to fur out all of the existing walls using metal studs and drywall to
       make them smooth and straight
3.    A reduction of $655.00 to use the existing lock cores on the doors rather than installing new cores

The result of Change Order C-005 for the Central Elementary School renovation project is an increase of $18,309.00.

Change Order N-002 for the Northeast Elementary School renovation project includes the following items:

1.    The addition of $448.00 to reinstall strip light fixtures in the media center
2.    The addition of $778.00 to remove the existing carpet and install new carpet from the school's
       reserve and add new base board in Rooms 137 and 138, adjacent to the media center
3.    The addition of $547.00 to remove the console units in Rooms 117 and 118 and install new
       fresh air dampers
4.    The addition of $281.00 to install electrical outlets in the vicinity of the adjusted work stations
       in Room 111 and 112
5.    The addition of $1,790.00 to add low voltage wiring cables in Rooms 117 and J123
6.    The addition of $813.00 to repair and paint the walls in Rooms 114 and 115 before installing
       new white boards and tack boards
7.    A reduction of $5,110.00 for power and data outlets on the deleted walls in the media center
       The cost to connect the modular furniture that replaced the walls was less than the amount
       deleted for fixed walls.
8.    The addition of $289.00 to add power for district security features to the exterior doors by
       the kitchen and media center
9.    The addition of $175.00 for a window shade on the window in Classroom 101
10.  The addition of $1,569.00 for finish work on the new windows on the east side of the building
11.  The addition of $54.00 to add an extended threshold to span the irregularity in the floor
       under the main entrance door
12.  The addition of $149.00 to convert the remote operator for the automatic door from a wired
       operator to a wireless operator

3.E. Approval of the Certified and Classified/Classified Exempt Employee Handbooks for the Kearney Public Schools for the 2012-2013 School Year
Rationale:  We will present the Certified and Classified/Classified Exempt Employee Handbooks for the Kearney Public Schools for the 2012-2013 school year, for Board of Education review and approval.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the Certified and Classified/Classified Exempt Employee Handbooks for the Kearney Public Schools for the 2012-2013 school year, as presented.
3.F. Approval of KHS DECA Chapter Trip to Central Region Leadership Conference in Denver, Co.
Rationale:  The KHS DECA Chapter is requesting approval to attend the Central Region Leadership Conference in Denver, Colorado, November 16-18, 2012.  They will visit the Denver Mint, Mile High Stadium, the Pepsi Center, and possibly the Cohn Marketing Firm.  Angie Fransk will be the faculty sponsor for the trip.
There will be no direct cost incurred by the school district for the trip.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the KHS DECA Chapter trip to the Central Region Leadership Conference in Denver, Co., November 16-18, 2012, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
3.G. Acceptance of Resignation
Rationale:  We have received a letter of resignation from Sherry Purvis, 1st grade teacher at Windy Hills Elementary School, effective December 21, 2012, the end of first semester of the 2012-2013 school year.  We will recommend that the Board of Education accept this resignation.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move that the resignation of Sherry Purvis be accepted effective December 21, 2012, that the Resignation Agreement with Sherry Purvis should be and is hereby approved, and that the President or Secretary, or any other official of the Kearney Public School District, should be and are hereby authorized to sign, execute, and put the provisions of the Agreement into effect, and place such Agreement into the confidential personnel file of Sherry Purvis.
3.H. Acceptance of the Glenwood Community Organization Annual Self-Audit Report for 2011-2012
Rationale:  The Glenwood Community Organization has submitted its annual self-audit report for the 2011-2012 school year for Board of Education review and acceptance.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to accept the Glenwood Community Organization annual self-audit report for the 2011-2012 school year, as presented.
