Rationale:  Kent Cordes from BD Construction will give the Board of Education an update on the two construction projects occurring in the school district at Northeast and Buffalo Hills Elementary Schools.

Rationale:  Julie Agard will report on the National School Boards Association Advocacy Institute she attended recently in Washington, D.C. regarding topics at the federal level relating to education.

3.D. Second and Final Reading Approval of Policy 5204 (Student Graduation)
Rationale:  The Board of Education gave first reading approval to revised Board Policy 5204 (Students Graduation) last month.  We have not received any additional input regarding the suggested revisions to the policy, so we will ask the Board of Education to give second and final reading approval of this policy at the February 12, 2018 Board of Education meeting.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to give second and final reading approval to Board Policy 5204 (Student Graduation), as presented, and make it part of the board policy manual.
3.E. Approval of KHS Jazz Band Trip to Greeley, Co. Jazz Festival
Rationale:  The Kearney high School Jazz Band is asking for Board of Education approval to attend the Greeley, Co. Jazz Festival, April 18-20, 2018.  The KHS Jazz Ensemble will perform at the festival, and students will attend various clinics and hear performances by other groups.  They will also visit the Denver Mint and Rocky Mountain National Park and conduct a school exchange concert with students from Hershey, NE.  The cost of the trip is $175 per student, and Mr. LeFeber and another adult sponsor will accompany the group on the trip. 
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the KHS Jazz Band trip to the Greeley, Co. Jazz Festival, April 18-20, 2018, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
4. Regular Agenda - Personnel
4.A. Acceptance of Resignations
Rationale:  We have received letters of resignation from Kathleen Cullinan, agriculture teacher at Kearney High School; Zachary Schafer, science teacher at Kearney High School; and LuAnn Brown, science teacher at Horizon Middle School.  We will ask the Board of Education to approve these resignations, with regret, effective the end of the 2017-2018 school year.

4.C. Discuss, Consider, and Take All Action With Regard to the Proposed Amendment of the Certificated Employment Contracts of Tracy Schall, Kris Kampovitz, and Michaela Brooks by Reason of Reduction in Force as Provided in Board of Education Policy and Nebraska Statute
Rationale:  Certificated staff members Tracy Schall, Kris Kampovitz, and Michaela Brooks  have extended employment contracts for 205 contract days.  For budgetary reasons, we will ask the Board of Education to eliminate extended contracts for these individuals, which would return them to the standard 185-day certificated employment contract.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the attached Resolution with regard to the proposed amendment of the certificated employment contracts of Tracy Schall, Kris Kampovitz, and Michaela Brooks by reason of reduction in force as provided in Board of Education policy and Nebraska statute.

Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to approve an additional 1.00 FTE 1st grade teaching position and a .50 FTE kindergarten specialist position at Buffalo Hills Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year, to address increased student numbers at those grade levels.
