2.A. Recognition of KHS State Speech Contest Winners
Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to recognize the 1st and 2nd place winners from KHS at the recent State Speech Contest:
Nathan Bonsall - State Champion - Interpretation of Humorous Prose
Jessica Kolbo - State Champion - Interpretation of Serious Prose
Blake Mills - State Runner-up - Entertainment Speaking
Nathan Bonsall, Isabella Breinig, Zach DeLoach, Jessica Kolbo and Addison Parr - State Runner-up - Interpretation of Drama

The team finished 4th out of 32 schools.
2.B. Recognition of KHS State HOSA Competition Winners
Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to recognize the HOSA first place winners of Creative Problem Solving and qualifying for international competition - Charlie Bonk, Chloe Lundgren, Alaina Schoone and Haley Kollars. Charlie and Chloe were also recognized as Outstanding Members for HOSA Future Health Professionals. Second place winners in Health Career Display and also qualifying for international competition were - Ariana Schoone and Alex Panowicz.  The Kearney Chapter was recognized for participating in the National Service Project.

 
2.C. Recognition of KHS State FFA Competition Winners
Rationale:  On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, twenty-one members from the Kearney FFA Chapter traveled to Lincoln to attend and participate in the 90th Nebraska FFA State Convention.

Ralston Ripp received first place in the Employment Skills Leadership Development Event and second place in the Beef Entrepreneurship Proficiency category.

 
2.D. Facilities Report
Rationale:  Kent Cordes from BD Construction will report to the Board of Education on progress being made on the two construction projects in the school district at Buffalo Hills and Northeast Elementary Schools.

2.G. Announcement of 2018 "Celebration of Excellence"
Rationale:  We would like to announce the 2018 "Celebration of Excellence" Reception that will be held on Thursday, April 26th from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M. at the Kearney Holiday Inn.  This annual event is to honor our employees for their years of service, this year's retirees, and the Kearney Public Schools Foundation award winners.  The public is invited to attend and reservations may be obtained through the Foundation Office.

3.F. Approval of Sale of Lot #3 in Grandview Estates 11th Addition
Rationale:  We have the opportunity to sell another of our lots in Grandview Estates 11th Addition that we had previously purchase for our construction technology class project houses.  We will ask the Board of Education to approve the purchase agreement from Curtis and Jane Andersen for Lot #3, Grandview Estates 11th Addition, in the amount of $52,000.  This was the Kearney Public Schools' listed sale price.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the purchase agreement for the sale of Lot #3, Grandview Estates 11th Addition, to Curtis and Jane Andersen in the amount of $52,000; and authorize Chris Nelson to sign all forms and documents to execute said sale.
3.G. Approval of KHS Speech Team Trip to National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in Denver, Co., May 12, 2018
Rationale:  The KHS Speech Team would like to ask Board of Education permission to attend the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in Denver, Co., May 12, 2018.  They would depart at 5:00 A.M. and return late in the evening.  They will be accompanied by Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Essay.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the KHS Speech Team trip to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in Denver, Co., May 12, 2018, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.

4.C. Approval of Employment of High School Principal
Rationale:  Kearney Public Schools completed a comprehensive interview process leading to the recommendation for the hiring of Dr. Christopher Loofe as Kearney High School Principal.  Five candidates were interviewed.  Each candidate interviewed with three Kearney Public Schools interview teams and Dr. Edwards.  The interview teams included:  a teacher team, an administrator team, and a student team.  Interview teams compiled feedback on each candidate into a written summary which was submitted to Dr. Edwards for review and consideration.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to employ Dr. Christopher Loofe as Principal of Kearney High School for the 2018-2019 school year, in accordance with the Administrator Performance-Based Supervision and Evaluation Model.

4.D. Approval of Contract Amendment for Dr. Jay Dostal for 2017-2018 School Year
Rationale:  To begin his new position on July 1, 2018, Dr. Jay Dostal is requesting to amend his 2017-2018 contract by moving his last contract day from July 31, 2018 to June 29, 2018.  Dr. Dostal's contract year would end as of June 29, 2018, at which time he resigns from all employment with Kearney Public Schools.  Dr. Dostal's salary will reflect this amendment and he will be paid for 11 months of his salary.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve an amendment to the administrative contract of Dr. Jay Dostal to end his employment with the Kearney Public Schools as of June 29, 2018, at which time Dr. Dostal resigns from all employment with the Kearney Public Schools and after which Dr. Dostal is not entitled to any additional compensation or benefits from Kearney Public Schools.
