Rationale:  This is the portion of the agenda that is set aside for public participation.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is not on the agenda, they should identify themselves at this time.  If anyone wishes to speak to an item that is on the agenda, they may do so when that item is discussed.  The guideline is to allow 5 minutes per individual or 20 minutes per topic.  This is an open, public meeting and a copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in this room.

Rationale:  Mrs. Agard will report on the topics discussed at this year's NSBA Advocacy Institute that she attended in Washington, D.C. recently.
2.B. Follow-up Report from the January 19, 2015 Board of Education Retreat
Rationale:  Mr. Watts and Dr. Maher will talk about the topics that were discussed at the January 19, 2015 Board of Education Special Retreat Meeting.
2.C. Legislative Update
Rationale:  Dr. Maher will report on the legislative activity in the Nebraska Unicameral thus far this session.
2.D. Facilities Update
Rationale:  Kent Cordes from BD Construction will update the Board on the progress made on the new high school construction project and discuss the final plans for the Horizon Middle School addition and renovation project.

3.D. Approval of KHS Symphony Orchestra Trip to Chicago, April 8-12, 2015
Rationale:  The Kearney High Symphony Orchestra is planning a trip to Chicago.  They are planning to leave the evening of April 8th and return the morning of April 12th.  The trip will include 54 students and 4 adult sponsors.  While in Chicago, the students will perform for a National Music Competition and attend a concert of one of the finest orchestras in the world - the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  All funding for the trip will come from individual students and will not require any school district funds.  They will ask the Board's permission to go on this trip.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the Kearney High Symphony Orchestra's trip to Chicago, Il., April 8-12, 2015, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
3.E. Approval of Additional Staff for 2015-2016
Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to approve the addition of another 3rd grade teacher at Buffalo Hills Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year, due to student numbers at that grade level.

3.F. Approval of Infrastructure Agreement with City of Kearney
Rationale:  This agreement with the City of Kearney covers construction of the water mains that will be considered "public" water mains after construction.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the Developer Constructed Infrastructure Agreement with the City of Kearney,for Lot 1, Bearcat Corner Addition to the City of Kearney, as presented.
3.G. Approval of KHS Jazz Band Trip to Greeley, Co., April 17, 18 & 19, 2015
Rationale:  The Kearney High School Jazz Band and Director, Nathan LeFeber, are asking the Board's approval for a Jazz Band trip to the Greeley Jazz Festival in Greeley, Co., April 17, 18 & 19, 2015.  The trip is voluntary for students and will cost each student $150, which covers the hotel, breakfasts, private motor coach transportation, and the headliner concert on Friday night.  Four adult sponsors will accompany the group.
Recommended Motion(s):  Move to approve the KHS Jazz Band trip to Greeley, Co., April 17, 18 & 19, 2015, with no direct cost incurred by the school district.
4. Regular Agenda - Personnel
4.A. Acceptance of Resignations
Rationale:  We have received letters of resignation from Jenna Maher, 1st grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary School; Sherri Ballard, special education teacher at Central Elementary School; and Janel Taylor, ELL teacher at Horizon Middle School; effective the end of the 2014-2015 school year.  We will ask the Board to accept these resignations, with regret.

Rationale:  Each year, the Board of Education is asked to set the compensation for the classified and classified exempt employees in the Kearney Public Schools for the upcoming school year.  For the 2015-2016 school year, we are recommending a 4.18% increase in total compensation for classified employees, and a 3.06%
increase in total compensation for classified exempt employees.

Rationale:  Each year, the Board of Education is asked to set compensation for the administrative staff in the Kearney Public Schools for the next school year.  For the 2015-2016 school year, we are recommending an increase of 3.06% in total compensation for the administrative staff in the Kearney Public Schools.

Rationale:  We will ask the Board of Education to approve the following change order KHS-001 with the following items:
1.    Provide and install Alternate No. 1, consisting of 100 additional parking stalls for an addition of $136,997.00.
2.    Provide and install Alternate No. 2, consisting of 100 additional parking stalls for an addition of $142,550.00.
3.    Provide and install Alternate No. 7, consisting of a precast concrete screen wall for an addition of $117,454.00.
4.    Provide and install Alternate No. 10, consisting of 6" thick concrete paving at the parking stalls for an addition of $59,397.00.
5.    Provide and install Alternate No. 12, consisting of food service items 113, 114, 117-153 for an addition of $43,986.00.
6.    Include builders' risk insurance under Sampson Construction Company's contract for an addition of $72,807.00. 

The Contract Sum will be increased by this Change Order KHS -001 in the amount of $573,191.00.

Rationale:  We are presenting the proposed calendar for the Optional Calendar program at Meadowlark Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year.  The Conventional Calendar for 2015-2016 was approved by the Board last month.  The proposed optional calendar mirrors the optional calendar for this year.
